Company History
The history of Rapid Bio began long before the COVID-19 pandemic. A team of scientists and entrepreneurs, including biotech entrepreneur Anzhey Zhimbiev, Semyon Pokatsky and German Khunteev, was developing innovative rapid tests for detecting brain injuries. In 2019, they registered in Russia the world’s first test for determining the risk of stroke and assembled a strong team of young specialists and experts at the Skolkovo Technopark.

However, biotechnology startups traditionally face difficulties with financing, and when the world found itself facing a pandemic in the winter of 2020, the situation for the team worsened. Understanding society’s urgent need for accessible and rapid COVID-19 diagnostics, the team quickly refocused and began developing a rapid test for coronavirus, despite the lack of funding.
In March 2020, at the height of the lockdown, the Rapid Bio team launched a crowdfunding campaign, asking compatriots for support. The whole country responded to the call: people raised 2.5 million rubles in just one week. The phones in the startup’s office did not stop ringing — people from all over the country called offering to help. Russian business also did not stand aside: for example, the company Lanit allocated 4 million rubles, believing in the idea and the team.
The team received incredible motivation, worked around the clock and, in just two months, was able to develop and register Russia’s first COVID-19 rapid test, becoming one of the first developers of such a test in the world. Starting with the production of several thousand tests per month, production gradually grew to millions of units monthly.
The profit received was directed toward the creation of large-scale automated production and the development of new, fully domestic tests. Today, Rapid Bio has already launched more than 20 diagnostic products on the market, with more than 90 still in development.
In 2024, a product line appeared for the diagnosis of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C. Among them is a 4th-generation HIV rapid test capable of detecting infection just two weeks after exposure. This test complies with international WHO standards and is considered one of the most accurate in the world.
The company was the first in Russia to register its test in Europe, successfully completed product registration in Thailand and Myanmar, is undergoing the registration process in Indonesia, and is also actively entering African markets with HIV and malaria tests.
The company continues to develop, investing in the development of rapid tests, genetic tests and innovative platforms in the fields of microfluidics and electrochemistry. Rapid Bio’s goal is to become a leading innovative developer of diagnostic solutions in Russia and worldwide.
Today, Rapid Bio has become a symbol of a new era in diagnostics, where instant and accurate analyses have ceased to be science fiction and have become an everyday reality. Its technologies do not simply make life easier — they shape the future of Russian medicine, making advanced scientific achievements accessible to the entire country.
